How To: Make Liquid Latex

Halloween is approaching which means its time to get out the Liquid Latex! However, if your like me and don't have any shops near you that sell Liquid Latex, this DIY will come in handy. By using liquid latex, you can create more realistic wounds and scars. This how to will be particularly helpful for a zombie or vampire look.

You Will Need:

  • 2 tbsp Gelatine. This is sold in most places, but I got mine at Sainsburys for £1.10 for three sachets.
  • 2 tbsp Glycerine. Again, this product is available in most shop but I brought it for 90p at Sainsburys.
  • 2 tbsp Water

Once you have poured the ingredients in to a container, stir it together with someone like an old paint brush. It should be a gloopy kind of consistency. Once stirred, put it in the microwave. This is to get rid of the gelatine pieces that haven't yet dissolved in to the liquid.  Heat the mixture for 10 seconds at a time until it is a runny liquid. If it still has visible gelatine pieces, put it in the microwave for another 10 seconds. Please be careful because when I first put the mixture in the microwave for the first time, I put it in for too long and it exploded, woops. Once it is a liquidy consistency, leave for about 5 minutes until it has cooled down before using it. Once it is cool, it is now ready to apply.

When using this home-made liquid latex, you will need to work quite fast. The mixture will dry very quickly. However, it can be easily reheated and used again. It is also very easy to clean up as when it dries, it turns in to a jelly like form. This makes it simple to get it out of the container. Also, to get the liquid latex off your skin, it is very easy. It peels off so it isn't messy at all. If you still have left over liquid latex, I suggest leaving it in a fridge as leaving it in a cupboard can make it go mouldy faster.

So that is basically how you make Liquid Latex! It's very simple and can really make a Halloween outfit look so effective. I hope this helped you! New post coming soon!
